Yes, wall stays are required to fix the freestanding radiators in place. Cast iron radiators are very heavy and there would be a risk of damage to the pipework and leaks if they are not fixed to the wall. You should use one wall stay for up to 10 sections, and then 2 wall stays for 11-23 sections.
