Are cast iron column radiators efficient?

Our column radiators are made from cast iron. Their high thermal mass means they warm up a bit slower than aluminium or steel radiators; however they also cool down a lot  slower and continue to release heat long after turned off. This gives a more even, stable warming and improved comfort.
